Carbon credits to achieve energy neutrality – Interview with Riccardo Fraccaro
Riccardo Fraccaro, CEO of Carbon Planet and former under-secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office, illustrates the question of energy neutrality using carbon credits.
The ambitious goal of energy transition is to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. As part of this pathway, Italian households and companies are invited to gradually reduce their emissions of CO2. Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) are an extraordinary opportunity. This innovative tool aims to reduce CO2 emissions through the self-consumption of energy shared between a number of actors. There is actually a solution for unavoidable emissions: carbon credits on the voluntary market. These innovative tools are becoming increasingly popular among companies travelling on a sustainability path. It is however important to tread one’s way carefully along this growing market to avoid so-called greenwashing.
