Incentives for electricity-intensive companies 2024. What they are and how to obtain them
If your company consumes a lot of electricity, you may be entitled to subsidies that allow you to reduce costs on your electricity bill. In this article, we explain what electricity-intensive companies are, the requirements for accessing incentives, how to calculate savings, and who to contact when applying.
What is an electricity-intensive company? Anelectricity-intensive company is a firm that has an average yearly consumption of electricity of at least 1 GWh, calculated for the reference period.
Requirements
In order to qualify for subsidies, companies must demonstrate they have taken measures to raise energy efficiency in line with the Legislative Decree. 102/2014. In particular, they must meet one of the following requirements:
- adoption of an energy management system in compliance with standard ISO 50.001, which includes an energy audit further to the criteria st out in annex 2 to legislative decree 102/2014;
or
- performance of a valid energy audit, communicated to ENEA, drafted in accordance with the Legislative Decree. 102/2014.
Amount of incentives
If companies meet these requirements, they can benefit from a reduction in system charges on their electricity bill. This specifically concerns component A SOSi.e. the portion of general charges relating to support for renewable energies and cogeneration pursuant to CIP 6/92.
The amount of the subsidy depends on the category of enterprise (ATECO code) and gross value added (GVA).
Who to contact
Given the complexity of the issue, it may be a good idea to consult qualified professionals (such as EGEs or energy managers) who possess the specific skills needed to:
- calculate the potential economic benefits;
- manage communication with the Cassa per i Servizi Energetici e Ambientali (CSEA) when filing the application and handling the preliminary documentation phase.
The application should be presented through the ad hoc portal provided by CSEA, by no later than 22 December 2023.
